He is a mechanical engineering specialist, graduated from Tsinghua University in 1970 and received his doctorate from the State University of New York (Buffalo) in 1984. He served as President of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Member of the Standing Committee of Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Mayor of Wuhan City, Minister of Education and President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
He has long been committed to the teaching and research of mechanical design, CNC technology and intelligent manufacturing, and has researched and organized the implementation of the technical route for the development and promotion of the application of CNC, CAD and intelligent manufacturing. He proposed and practiced algorithm theories such as monotonicity analysis and optimization, direct interpolation in CNC machining, etc. He presided over the development of a series of software products such as Huazhong I. CNC system and optimization design, mechanical CAD, etc., which are widely used in machinery, aviation, aerospace, energy and other industries, creating significant social and economic benefits. He has won many national, provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards, published more than 200 papers and 12 books.
In 1999, he was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

He has carried out a series of research on the basic theory of electro-hydraulic control, basic components and systems, as well as the development and engineering application of key technologies of shield and elevator equipment, and formed a complete technical route of "theory-component-system-equipment-application", which has made important contributions to the independent research and development of electromechanical and hydraulic equipment in China and achieved significant economic benefits. He won the first prize (2012, ranked 1st) and the second prize (2003, ranked 1st) of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

He was elected a Fellow of IEEE in 2012, a Fellow of Engineering Institute of Canada in 2014, and a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering in 2019. He received his bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Beijing Jiaotong University in 1983 and 1986, and his PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence in System Control from the Technical University of Compiegne, France in 1996. From 1997 to 1999, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary, Canada. From 1999 to 2018, he was a Research Fellow, Senior Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Professor of Tongji University。Research Fellow and Principal Investigator at the National Research Institute of Canada. He is also editor-in-chief of IET CIM and deputy editor of IEEE TSMC, TASE and other magazines. His research interests mainly include collaborative design and manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, production scheduling, Internet of Things, big data, agent theory and application.He has published over 450 papers in scientific journals and international conferences in the related areas, among which more than 200 papers have been indexed by SCI, more than 12,000 times cited on Google papers (of which a single paper has been cited more than 900 times), with an H-index of 52.

Deputy Director and Researcher of Strategic Consulting Center, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Deputy Secretary General of National Industrial Base Expert Committee. His research interests are manufacturing power, intelligent manufacturing, industrial base and industrial cluster. As the main researcher of the team, he participated in the series of strategic studies on manufacturing power, industrial base (industrial base) strategy, China's new industrialization strategy, and carried out regional and enterprise empirical studies in Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, etc. He participated in the policy planning of manufacturing power, industrial base (industrial base) policy planning, the 14th Five-Year Plan for manufacturing industry, the "Four Bases" Development Catalog of Industry (2016 edition), and the "Industrial Base Innovation Development Catalog (2021 edition)" and other work. He is a Chair Professor in Sustainable Manufacturing and the Director of Centre of Excellence in Production Research (XPRES) at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. His research interests are primarily focused on human-robot collaboration, cyber-physical systems, real-time monitoring and control, predictive maintenance, and adaptive manufacturing systems. Professor Wang is actively engaged in various professional activities. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Robotics and Computer-Integrated Manufacturing, International Journal of Manufacturing Research, and Journal of Manufacturing Systems. He has published 10 books and authored in excess of 680 scientific publications. Professor Wang is a Fellow of Canadian Academy of Engineering, AET, CIRP, SME and ASME; the President (2020-2021) of North American Manufacturing Research Institution of SME, and the Chairman (2018-2020) of Swedish Production Academy. In 2020, he was elected one of the 20 Most Influential Professors in Smart Manufacturing.

He was elected as one of the distinguished “Chang Jiang Scholars” by the Ministry of Education of China, and awarded funding in the “Outstanding Young Scholars Program” by the National Science Foundation of China. Prof Li has extensive research experience in the field of aerospace intelligent manufacturing. He was the PI for more than 20 research projects including the state key program of National Natural Science Foundation of China, project funded by the National Science and Technology Major Project Scheme, etc. He has published more than 80 papers in SCI-indexed journals like National Science Review, Advanced Functional Materials, Engineering, CIRP Annals- Manufacturing Technology as the first or corresponding author and also authorized more than 40 invention patents. Prof. Li delivered keynote speeches at different international conferences for more than 10 times. He serves as associate editor of journals including the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part B - Journal of Engineering Manufacture and Journal of Manufacturing Systems, executive member of the council of Chinese Graphic Society and chairman of the smart factory committee. Prof Li was the primary awardee of the Second Prize of 2016 National Technical Invention and the Second Prize of 2022 National Teaching Achievement Award, and the awardee of The Xplorer Prize in 2021.

Mr. Wu Youhua, Honorary Vice President and Special Advisor to the President of the China Instrument and Control Society, Executive Deputy Secretary General of the Intelligent Manufacturing Alliance of CAST Member Societies, Deputy Secretary General of the International Coalition of Intelligent Manufacturing, and researcher level senior engineer. In 1980, he joined the China Instrument and Control Society and served as Deputy Director and Director of the society’s International Department, Executive Deputy Secretary General and Executive Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the society. He also served as a member of the 7th and 8th Committees of the China Association for Science and Technology, a member of the International Cooperation Committee as well as a member of the Science and Technology Popularization Committee of the China Association for Science and Technology. He has made outstanding contributions in strengthening the organizational construction of the society, improving member management and service systems, leveraging the role of expert think tanks, conducting strategic consultations, undertaking government transfer functions, promoting international recognition of technical titles, organizing academic exchange activities, hosting high-quality international conferences and exhibitions, assisting local economic and technological development, and popularizing science and technology.
