He has published three monographs in English and Chinese, more than 200 SCI retrieved papers, and 33,000+ Google Scholar citations. His research achievements have won the first prize and second prize of Natural Science of the Ministry of Education (both ranked 1), international academic paper awards for 9 times, the famous international academic awards in the field of electromechanical systems - Nagamori Reward, and the Gold Prize of the International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva in 2022. 2017-2024 was selected as a member of Clarivate's list of highly cited scientists around the world for 8 years consecutively, and was selected as a member of Elsevier's list of highly cited scientists for 9 years consecutively in the period of 2015-2023. Dr. Dan Zhang is a Kaneff Professor and Tier 1 York Research Chair in Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University. From July 1, 2004, to December 31, 2015, Dr. Zhang was a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Advanced Robotics and Automation, was a founding Chair of the Department of Automotive, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering with the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science at University of Ontario Institute of Technology.

He received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Laval University in June, 2000. Dr. Zhang’s contributions to and leadership within the field of robotic and automation have been recognized with several prestigious awards, within his own university (Lassonde Innovation Awards — Established Researcher in 2018, Research Excellence Award both from university level in 2009 and faculty level in 2008), the Province of Ontario (Early Researcher Award in 2010), the professional societies (election to Fellow of the CAE in 2017, the ASME in 2016, the EIC in 2012 and the CSME in 2010) and federal funding agencies (Canada Research Chair in January 2009 and renewed in January 2014). As well, he was awarded the Inaugural Teaching Excellence by the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science of UOIT in 2006 and the Best Professor Award by UOIT Engineering Students’ Society in 2012. Dr. Zhang was listed as the World’s Top Two Percent Researchers by Stanford’s Standardized Citation Indicators in 2020. In addition, he and his students won the 2020 ASME Journal of Mechanical Design Editors’ Choice Award.

Dr. Anjan Kumar Tula is an Associate Professor at the College of Control Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University. A recognized leader in process systems engineering, his expertise spans computer-aided methods for modeling, property estimation, process-product synthesis, and industrial analytics. His scholarly contributions include 40 peer-reviewed articles, 3 book chapters, and 1 patent.
Dr. Tula earned his B.E. in Chemical Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, India, in 2007, and his M.S. from Lamar University, Texas, USA, in 2010. His master’s research, funded by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), focused on developing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and kinetic models for analyzing HRVOC emissions during industrial flaring.
Dr. Tula began his career at General Electric’s water business, focusing on water treatment technologies for cooling towers and boilers. During his tenure, he received the GE Young Engineer Award in 2012. Later, he joined Prof. Rafiqul Gani’s team at the Technical University of Denmark, earning his Ph.D. in process synthesis, design, and analysis in 2017.
After his Ph.D., Dr. Tula was a postdoctoral researcher at Auburn University under Prof. Mario E. Eden, contributing to hybrid process development and intensification. Since joining Zhejiang University in 2019, he has collaborated with industry leaders, including Saudi Aramco, ExxonMobil (USA), Amino, and others, delivering solutions that bridge academic innovation with industrial needs. His projects have included advanced process modeling, optimization, and the development of data-driven analytics for these global organizations.
From 2022 to 2024, Dr. Tula worked with Veolia as a crew chief, leading a team to develop data analytics systems for chemical asset performance. He successfully implemented real-time performance monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions. His research has also been supported by prestigious grants, including the Natural Science Foundation of China, enabling him to advance innovative methodologies for product-process optimization and analytics.
